Seperation Anxiety in Children

Seperation anxiety occurs in the absence of the primary-caretaker around mid-childhood. 3-4% of children and fewer adolescents experience this and it is more common in females.










Red Flags for Teachers:excessive “homesickness”
uncooperativeness
clinginess
tantrums
inattentiveness
poor attendance
fear

Teachers Can:Respect and reassure the child
Set limits and rules
Encourage fear facing & reward their efforts
Follow routines and patterns
Identify safe places and assist in distraction
